Matcha at Home: 5 Products from Your First Cup to a Tea Corner

A tall glass of ice, milk poured slowly, and a green layer swirling between them. Matcha invites you to pause: its colour, its vegetal flavour, and a preparation ritual that can make even a short break feel special. After a cup at a café, a thought may follow: could we make this at home?

Matcha is powdered green tea associated with Japanese tea tradition. Getting started does not require turning your kitchen into a tea house. Choose a few basic tools, get to know the flavour, and upgrade later if you enjoy the routine. These five products follow that journey, from a first cup to a permanent drinks corner.

1. Gebrazy bamboo whisk: start with a simple ritual

There is something satisfying about watching powder and water come together in a bowl. A bamboo whisk, known as a chasen, is the traditional tool for mixing matcha. It is a starting point if you want to explore preparation without dedicating a kitchen shelf to equipment.

A standalone whisk makes most sense if you already own a suitable mixing bowl. Before choosing Gebrazy, check the package contents and bamboo care instructions; a holder in a photograph is not necessarily included.

Who is it for? For beginners who already have a suitable bowl and want traditional preparation.

2. VIBINHO matcha kit: your first tea corner

If the preparation is part of the appeal, a matcha kit brings the tools together. Rather than choosing a bowl, whisk and holder separately, you can give this small ritual a permanent place on the kitchen counter.

According to its listing, the green VIBINHO kit includes a bowl, bamboo whisk, sieve, two measuring and scooping utensils, and a ceramic holder. It is an alternative to the standalone whisk, not an essential addition to it. Matcha powder is not listed among the accessories. Rinse and dry the bamboo tools as the manufacturer instructs.

Who is it for? For beginners without equipment, or as a gift for an existing matcha fan.

3. NanoFoamer Lithium: for a silky milk layer

If you enjoy the soft milk layer of a café latte, this is a different kind of upgrade. The Subminimal NanoFoamer Lithium is designed to create milk microfoam, so it can also earn a place beside your coffee equipment.

This model has a rechargeable lithium battery and USB-C charging. Its role here is preparing the milk for a latte; whisk the matcha powder with water separately first. It does not heat the milk, and you do not need it for matcha served with water alone.

Who is it for? For latte fans who want to invest in milk texture.

4. VAHDAM powder: the base for your homemade latte

A bowl and whisk are not enough without the tea itself. Matcha is powdered green tea leaf: rather than steeping and removing a tea bag, you mix the powder with water and drink the resulting beverage. If your ideal cup includes milk and ice, choose a powder suitable for a latte.

This VAHDAM powder comes in a 100 g pack and is labelled culinary grade. According to the product description, it is pure Japanese matcha suited to lattes, smoothies and baking. We are not presenting it as ceremonial matcha; it is an option for milk-based drinks and recipes. Read the pack instructions and adjust the amount to your taste.

Who is it for? For homemade matcha lattes, smoothies or baking.

5. Tefal Smart N Light kettle: upgrade your drinks corner

The next step is less about one cup and more about your kitchen routine. If you prepare tea and other hot drinks as well as matcha, a kettle with temperature selection can make preparation more convenient and repeatable.

The Tefal KO8508 offers a 1.7-litre capacity, five temperature settings and a digital display. Choose a setting that follows your matcha powder’s preparation instructions rather than assuming every tea needs boiling water. This is an optional upgrade for regular home drink makers. Beginners do not need to replace a working kettle just to try matcha.

Who is it for? For tea and hot-drink enthusiasts who also want control over water heating.

How do you make a matcha latte at home?

Here is a starting point for an iced latte, based on Ippodo’s recipe. Adjust to your taste and the instructions for your chosen powder.

  1. Sift 3 g of matcha into a bowl.
  2. Add 100 ml of water at about 80°C.
  3. Whisk briskly with a bamboo whisk for about 15 seconds, in an M-shaped motion.
  4. Add ice and 100 ml of milk or a plant-based drink to a glass, then pour the matcha over it.

See Ippodo’s full iced matcha latte recipe.

How do you choose without buying everything?

For your first cup, you need matcha powder and a way to mix it. Choose a standalone whisk if you have a suitable bowl, or a starter kit if you have no equipment. The NanoFoamer upgrades the milk for a latte; the kettle is another optional addition for regular drink makers. You do not need every tool to get started.

Flying to Italy? Check the details before ordering

Before adding equipment to your suitcase, read our guide to shopping on Amazon Italy for collection addresses, delivery checks and fitting an order around your itinerary. A ceramic kit also needs room and protective packing for the journey home.

New here? See how Shop & Fly works for an explanation of the process. Check each product’s complete price, collection eligibility and arrival date. Comparing with a different local product can help you choose, but it does not establish a discount on the same model.
